The costumes made by the IED Rome students at Micca Club
I recently attended the party which was held in Rome at the Micca Club for celebrating the latest edition of MA on Styling for the entertainment by the renowned Rome European Design Institute (IED) – after being part of the commission of experts, featuring the renowned fashion historian and curator Bonizza Giordani Aragno, director of MA along with the bright journalist and fashion historian and curator Sofia Gnoli, the brilliant filmmaker and film producer Michele Civetta and many other ones who evaluated the final works made by the students – where it has showcased the final works by the students and it was screened the videos they made, shot at the club, featuring the theme of burlesque. A joyful evening I enjoyed along with friends and artists as Leopoldo Mastelloni – with whom I shared a hilarious conversation about burlesque, theatre and ukulele – under the sign of fashion, young talents, music and fun.

Ho recentemente partecipato al party che si é tenuto a Roma presso il Micca Club per celebrare l’ ultima edizione del Master in Styling per lo spettacolo del rinomato Istituto Europeo di Design(IED) di Roma – dopo essere parte della commissione di esperti di cui é stata protagonista la famosa storica della moda, curatrice e docente Bonizza Giordani Aragno, direttore del master unitamente alla giornalista, storica della moda e docente Sofia Gnoli, il regista e produttore cinematografico Michele Civetta e molti altri che hanno valutato i final works degli studenti) – in cui sono stati esposti i final works degli studenti e proiettati i cortometraggi da loro realizzati, girati al club, di cui è stato protagonista il tema del burlesque. Una gioiosa serata che ho apprezzato unitamente ad amici e artisti quali Leopoldo Mastelloni – con il quale ho condiviso una ilare conversazione sul burlesque, teatro e l’ ukulele – all’ insegna di moda, giovani talenti, musica e divertimento.

The renowned Rome fashion school European Design Institute(IED) recently held at the Maxxi B.A.S.E. “Talk in IED”, a meeting – included in smashing series of workshops organized to train the students - moderated by the journalist Federico Poletti and the professor Tommaso Basilio, featuring the young Netherlander high fashion designer Iris Van Herpen and come before by the screening of shortfilm directed by Joost Vandebrug . Here the designer, shy and hesitant, woman – embodying a leitmotiv of many creatives and artists who are able to feel and make, but rarely to explain properly and fully ideas -, answered to my question (“to which extent she was influenced by the idea of grotesque as unconventional standard of beauty”, a “difficult question” as the creative said, giving rise to a nice interaction and asking me immediately for further references concerning the grotesque, marvelously depicted by the works of Aubrey Beardsley, patterns I think that are evoked in an avant-garde way by her) and many other ones, talking about her work, based essentially on an artistic approach made of thought and intuition – bright evidence of the creative power of chaos, as concept opposing to the order and organization of work – as well as the search for materials that often, but not only are a source of inspiration. A successful chance for students and enthusiasts to discover and enjoying an emerging talent of high fashion – who debuts on Fall, presenting her first ready-to-wear collection, further step of her creative paht towards the synthesis of concept I wish her of making at best – as well as to think about fashion culture and culture in fashion, ancient connection and precious source which sometimes is taken for granted.
“TALK IN IED”: IRIS VAN HERPEN A ROMA AL MAXXI B.A.S.E.

La rinomata scuola di moda di Roma Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) ha recentemente tenuto presso il Maxxi B.A.S.E. “Talk in IED”, un incontro – incluso nella formidabile serie di workshops organizzati per formare gli studenti – moderato dal giornalista Federico Poletti e il docente Tommaso Basilio di cui é stata protagonista la giovane designer di alta moda Iris Van Herpen e preceduto dal fashion film diretto da Joost Vandebrug. Ivi la creativa, donna timida ed esitante – che racchiude in sé un leitmotiv di creativi ed artisti che sovente hanno la capacità di sentire e fare, ma raramente di esprimere idee in modo appropriato e dettagliato – ha risposto alla mia domanda (“in che misura è stata influenzata dall’ idea del grottesco quale standard anticonvenzionale di bellezza?”, una “domanda difficile”, come ha detto la giovane creativa, dando vita a una simpatica interazione e chiedendo immediatamente a me ulteriori riferimenti in merito al grottesco, meravigliosamente dipinto dalle opere di Aubrey Beardsley, motivi che ritengo siano da lei evocati in una foggia avveniristica) come anche a molte altre, parlando del suo lavoro che si basa essenzialmente su un approccio artistico fatto di pensiero e intuizione – brillante concretizzazione del potere creativo del caos quale idea contrapposta all’ ordine e organizzazione del lavoro – come anche di ricerca dei materiali che sovente, ma non unicamente sono una fonte di ispirazione. Una felice occasione per studenti ed entusiasti per scoprire e apprezzare un emergente talento dell’ alta moda – che debutta in autunno presentando la sua prima collezione di prêt-à porter, passo ulteriore del suo percorso creativo verso la sintesi del concept che le auguro di realizzare al meglio -, come anche per riflettere sulla cultura della moda e la cultura nella moda, antico legame e preziosa risorsa che talvolta é data per scontata.

Cinderthriller
The shoes designer Alberto Guardiani and I-D, British magazine created by Terry Jones, recently announced the winner of fashion contest Cinderthriller, launched months ago to look for the new It-shoe by Alberto Guardiani, awarding the “Flutterby shoe” – chosen by a special panel featuring the celebrated British shoe designer Georgina Goodman, Anna dello Russo, Sarah, owner of Paris concept-store Colette, Andrew Keith, president of Hong Kong department store Lane Crawford, Terry Jones and Rubina Guardiani -, pump created by the Manila designer Lady San Pedro, showcased along with the creations of second finalist, London designer Alex Noble and third finalist, the Iranian designer Azadeh Zandi at the renowned Milanese concept store 10 Corso Como, created by Carla Sozzani where it has celebrated the happening. A laudable initiative to award and support young creatives.

Il designer di calzature shoes Alberto Guardiani e I-D, magazine inglese creato da Terry Jones, hanno recentemente annunciato il vincitore del fashion contest Cinderthriller, lanciato mesi fa per cercare la nuova It-shoe di Alberto Guardiani ed é stata premiata la “Flutterby shoe” – scelta da una speciale giuria composta dalla celebre designer inglese di calzature Georgina Goodman, Anna dello Russo, Sarah, proprietaria del concept-store parigino Colette, Andrew Keith, presidente del department store di Hong Kong Lane Crawford, Terry Jones e Rubina Guardiani -, décolletée creata dalla designer di Manila Lady San Pedro, esposta unitamente alle creazioni del secondo finalista, il designer londinese Alex Noble ed la terza finalista Azadeh Zandi presso il rinomato concept store milanese 10 Corso Como, creato ds Carla Sozzani in cui è stato festeggiato l’ evento. Una lodevole iniziativa per premiare e sostenere i giovani creativi.

The Japanese designer Motohiro Tanji presented during the third edition of Fashion Finest – event which was recently held in London, outside the London Fashion Week calendar, supporting young talents and living the chance to showcase the creations they made – the Fall/Winter 2012/2013 collection, featuring tridimensional lines and neutral colors that remind the evolution and destruction process, main feature of bioerosion, theme which inspired the young creative.

Il designer giapponese Motohiro Tanji ha presentato in occasione della terza edizione di Fashion Finest – evento che si é recentemente tenuto a Londra, al di fuori del calendario della London Fashion Week che supporta I giovani talenti e offre la possibilità di esporre le creazioni da loro realizzate – la collezione autunno/inverno 2012-2013 di cui sono protagoniste linee tridimensionali e colori neutri che ricordano il processo di evoluzione e distruzione, principale caratteristica della bioerosione, tema che ha ispirato il giovane creativo.

The latest edition of Alta Roma featured “Room service”, a new project with the intention to connect the emerging designers with the clients via the elegant showcase of the Rome Marriot Grand Hotel. Brands on display were Lucilla Paci, Gaetano Perrone, Bragia, Morphosis, Mood by Veronica Bettini, Move and more. A laudable initiative to support new talents.

I brand in mostra erano Lucilla Paci, Gaetano Perrone, Bragia, Morphosis, Mood by Veronica Bettini, Move ed altri ancora. Una lodevole iniziativa per supportare nuovi talenti.

The AltaRoma “Talents 2012” prize – Rome Fashion & Costume Academy – a special jury of fashion experts awarded “Metissage”, the collection created by Adriana Maria Calzetti and Corrado Scollo, a fun overlapping of female and male aesthetics – floral fabrics, textiles as tweed, lace, silk and chiffon -, proved a successful evidence of talent and work of an institution training the young generation of creatives.

Il premio di AltaRoma “Talents 2012” – dell’ Accademia di Costume e Moda di Roma - nel cui ambito una speciale giuria di esperti della moda ha insignito “Metissage”, la collezione creata da Adriana Maria Calzetti e Corrado Scollo, una divertente sovrapposizione di estetica femminile e maschile – stampe floreali, tessuti quali tweed, pizzo, seta e chiffon – ha provato una felice dimostrazione del talento e dell’ opera di una istituzione che forma giovani generazioni di creativi.

Ibridi, brand of womenswear and accessories created by Andrea Gangi, young self-taught Catania designer, who started his career randomly, making the shopping-bag he didn’t succeed to find as he told me during a joyful event which was held in Reggio Calabria at H224 club where it has showcased the latest collection accessories – brooches, earrings, necklaces – he made, paying homage to his love for Plexiglas, featuring a fun interpretation of celebrated fashion brands’ logos, impressed on shopping bags, turned into ironic slogans as well as jewels. A bright craftsmanship made concrete also in the womenswear – dresses and jackets -, unique items - made of exclusive unreplicable fabrics - of whose simple, retro lines are a passé-partout, successfully joining comfort and quality to an affordable price.

Ibridi, brand di abbigliamento da donna ed accessori, creato da Andrea Gangi, giovane designer autodidatta di Catania che ha iniziato la sua carriera per caso, realizzando la shopping bag che non riusciva a trovare come mi ha detto in occasione di un gioioso evento che si é tenuto a Reggio Calabria presso il locale H224 in cui è stata esposta l’ ultima collezione di accessori – spille, orecchini, collane – da lui realizzate che omaggiano il suo amore per il plexiglass di cui è protagonista una divertente interpretazione dei loghi di celebri marchi di moda, impressi sulle shopping bag, trasformati in ironici slogan ed anche in gioielli. Una brillante artigianalità concretizzata anche nell’ abbigliamento da donna – abiti e giacche -, pezzi unici - realizzati in esclusivi tessuti non replicabili - le cui semplici linee retrò sono un passé-partout che felicemente unisce comfort e qualità ad un prezzo alla portata di tutti.

The Miroglio Texile Group recently launched the Elena Mirò Art&Fashion, a workshop lasting 3 days which was held at the magnificent Turin Venaria Reale, focused on art and fashion to celebrate this connection as well as the one there is between the Alba city and Miroglio Group to the artist Pinot Gallizio, for which 12 emerging fashion designer reinterpreted a work he made by use of Miroglio’s fabrics on the frame of the exhibition “Fashion in Italy. 150 years of elegance”. The winner of this contest is – my friend – Matteo Thiela who was inspired by “the passion of Pinot Gallizio for the survival of nomads, imagining a woman he could love”- as the designer asserts -, “respecting the print and his work, inserting that as the soul of dress, turned into scarf, lining in order to reinterpret the use of poor textile for making a “Empress of Nomads” dress, featuring by five oblique sheet scarves with a sash enhancing the waist”. “I would continued the nights’ cycle forever until I would arrived”, thus it says the artist Pinot Gallizzio, of whose words guided the creative path of Matteo Thiela and his choice of black, the gabardine fabric, joint to yellow scarves, a rust brown ribbon. “The spontaneous gesture” is a theme explored by the fashion designer, using grout splashes and finding a fly appearing in the canvas he embroidered on the dress. A genuine masterpiece of visionary creativity.
L’ ELENA MIRÓ ART & FASHION CONTEST A LA VENARIA REALE DI TORINO

Il Gruppo Tessile Miroglio ha recentemente lanciato l’ Elena Mirò Art&Fashion, un workshop di 3 giorni che si è tenuto presso la magnifica Venaria Reale di Torino, incentrato su arte e moda per celebrare questo legame come anche quello esistente tra la città di Alba ed il Gruppo Miroglio con l’ artista Pinot Gallizio, per cui 12 fashion designer emergenti hanno reinterpretata un opera da lui realizzata mediante l’ uso dei tessuti Miroglio sullo sfondo della mostra “Moda in Italia. 150 anni di eleganza”. Il vincitore del contest é – il mio amico – Matteo Thiela che si è ispirato alla “passione di Pinot Gallizio per la sopravvivenza dei nomadi, immaginando una donna che avrebbbe potuto amare”- come afferma il designer -, “rispettando la stampa, il suo lavoro e inserendo ciò nelle vesti di anima dell’ abito, trasformato in fouldard fodera al fine di reinterpretare l’ uso di tessuto povero per realizzare un abito da” Imperatrice dei Nomadi” che si compone di cinque teli foulard asimmetrici con una fusciacca che esalta la vita”. “Avrei continuato il ciclo delle noti per sempre fino ad arrivare al nero”, così dice Pinot Gallizzio le cui parole hanno guidato l’ iter creativo di Matteo Thiela e la sua scelta del nero, il tessuto gabardine, unito a foulard gialli ed un nastro ruggine. “Ilgesto spontaneo” è un tema esplorato dal fashion designer, avvalendosi di schizzi di biacca e ritrovando una mosca che appare sulla tela che ha ricamato sull’ abito. Un autentico capolavoro di creatività visionaria.

Vallenes - to showcase their Spring/Summer 2012 collections and have the chance to connect with market and buyers. A laudable partnership, joining the pioneer approach as genuine talent scout of a virtual platform to an Institution as Pitti, successfully making concrete a continuous, innovative search in the realm of contemporary fashion.

Neozone Cloudine - che si é tenuto a Milano presso il NHow Hotel – con un progetto site specific project, ha scelto otto formitabili designer che appaiono in Not Just A Label – Angela Bang, Eleanor Amoroso, Fanny and Jessy, Howitzweissbach(brillante duo di designer tedeschi), Juliaandben, Pedro Pedro, Reality Studio, Veronica B. Vallenes - per esporre le loro collezioni primavera/estate 2012 ed avere la possibilità di entrare in contatto con il mercato ed i buyer. Una lodevole partnership che unisce il pionieristico approccio da talent-scout di una piattaforma virtuale ad una Istituzione quale Pitti che concretizza felicemente una continua, ricerca innovativa nell’ambito della moda contemporanea.
