It will be opened on 7th November 2011 in Hollywood at the Antebellum Gallery the exhibition, curated by Rick Castro of Touko Laaksonen aka Tom of Finland – coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Finnish artist death’s day -, ideated in collaboration with Durk Dehner and the Tom of Finland Foundation, following until 23rd December 2011, featuring unseen works by the artist. Here it will be showcased photographs and collages made by the artist – who has also celebrated by a scent “Tom of Finland”, created by the famous French brand Etat Libre d’Orange - of whose stylized fetish art, iconic erotic images, paying homage to the male beauty, influenced the late twentieth century imagery. A not to be missed happening to enjoy the work of a bright artist.

Sarà inaugurata il 7 novembre 2011 a Hollywood presso la Antebellum Gallery la mostra, curata da Rick Castro di Touko Laaksonen aka Tom of Finland – che coincide con il 20° anniversario della morte dell’artista finlandese -, ideata in collaborazione con Durk Dehner e la Tom of Finland Foundation, proseguirà fino al 23dicembre 2011 di cui saranno protagoniste opere inedite dell’artista. Ivi saranno esposte fotografie e collage realizzate dall’artista – che è stato celebrato anche da un profumo, “Tom of Finland”, creato dal famoso brand francese Etat Libre d’Orange - la cui stilizzata arte fetish, le iconiche immagini erotiche che rendono omaggio alla bellezza maschile ha influenzato l’immaginario di fine ventesimo secolo. Un evento imperdibile per apprezzare l’opera di un brillante artista.

Today, twenty years after the death – due to HIV – of the legendary singer Freddie Mercury, front-man of Queen band, it will be will be sold by auction during the event “Freddie for a day”, organized by the charity Mercury Phoenix Trust, the Lotus Evora S Freddie Mercury Edition, an unique car created to celebrate his sixty-fifth birthday. The aesthetics of car is inspired to the colors of costume worn by the artist during the Magic Tour in 1986 – white, red and gold – emphasized by other details as the silhouette of artist and its signature appearing on the back of care. The proceeds resulting from the sale will be donated for the research against HIV. A successful initiative to remind an unforgettable artist.

Oggi, venti anni dopo la morte – dovuta all’ HIV – del leggendario cantante Freddie Mercury, leader dei Queen, sarà venduta all’asta in occasione dell’evento “Freddie for a day”, organizzato dall’ associazione di beneficienza Mercury Phoenix Trust, la Lotus Evora S Freddie Mercury Edition, un’automobile unica creata per celebrare il suo sessantacinquesimo compleanno. L’estetica dell’automobile si ispira ai colori del costume indossato dall’artista durante il Magic Tour nel 1986 – bianco, rosso ed oro -, enfatizzata da altri dettagli quali la silhouette dell’artista e la sua firma che appare nella parte posteriore della macchina. I ricavati della vendita saranno donati per la ricerca contro l’HIV. Una felice iniziativa per ricordare un’artista indimenticabile.

The latest edition of Alta Roma has been a successful chance to meet Ivano Atzori, graffiti artist known as Dumbo, eclectic artist and smashing Milanese designer who showcased a magnificent necklace during the exhibition “Limited/Unlimited”. A random meeting happened at breakfast time in the hall of Hotel Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi – peopled during those days by colleagues, designers and friends – where we stayed. I still smile thinking about this hilarious circumstance. Ivano appears being barefoot and having the long hair wet – seeming like when Devendra Banhart meets a sanyasi (devoted to asceticism) of Osho Rajneesh (controversial guru who diffused and reinterpreted the tantric doctrine) – in the hall where a woman has serving the breakfast. He smiles, brings something to eat, standing up, then he says hello and goes away. The nice woman immediately after he has gone asserts “he is also one of you, you were all really strange” and she cracks up. Then I remind the scene of movie by Todd Browning “Freaks” and I also start laughing. A beautiful memory staying along with a precious black book documenting “One size fits all”(Grafica dell’artiere), wonderful project joining art and fashion, made by the genius creative, exhibited time ago in Milan at Palazzo Morando. Here it features a fetish, he ski-mask – worn by the artist as Dumbo to preserve the anonymity -, made exclusively for Ivano Atzori by celebrated designers – as Haider Ackermann, Neil Barrett, Ennio Capasa, Missoni, N° 21, Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood and Bernhard Willhelm – along with photographs depicting him, the wife Sophia and son Leroy, making concrete the infinite possibilities of fashion, celebrating creativity and exploring the theme of double, human fragility, overwhelming lust of uniqueness and also the will of dreaming, evoking a tribal aesthetics. Bright transposition of what is unusual and surreal into everyday life, creating a superb total work of art, vibrant source of energy to shake the conscience, contributing to activate an autonomous thought – bringer of culture and freedom -, need arising from the contemporary narcolepsy.
IL CASO, LA MODA E L’ARTE, ILMIO INCONTRO CON IVANO ATZORI

L’ultima edizione di Alta Roma è stata una felice occasione per incontrare Ivano Atzori, graffitista conosciuto come Dumbo, eclettico artista e formidabile designer milanese che ha esposto una magnifica collana da lui realizzata in occasione della mostra “Limited/Unlimited”. Un incontro casuale avvenuto a colazione nella sala dell’ Hotel Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi – popolato in quei giorni da colleghi, designer e amici – in cui alloggiavamo. Sorrido ancora ripensando a questa ilare circostanza. Ivano appare scalzo e con i lunghi capelli bagnati – sembrando un mix tra Devendra Banhart e un sanyasi (devoto all’ascetismo) di Osho Rajneesh (controverso guru che ha diffuso e reinterpretato la dottrina del tantra) – nella hall in cui una signora serviva la prima colazione. Costui sorride, prende qualcosa da mangiare, rimanendo in piedi, saluta e se ne va. Immediatamente dopo la simpatica signora afferma: “anche lui è uno di voi, certo che voi siete tutti strani” e scoppia a ridere. Penso subito alla scena del film di Todd Browning “Freaks” e rido anch’io. Un bel ricordo che resta unitamente a un prezioso libro nero che documenta “One size fits all”(Grafica dell’artiere), il meraviglioso progetto artistico che unisce arte e moda, realizzato dal geniale creativo ed esposto tempo fa a Milano presso Palazzo Morando. Ivi è protagonista un feticcio, il passa-montagna – indossato dall’artista nelle vesti di Dumbo per mantenere l’anonimato -, realizzato esclusivamente per Ivano Atzori da celebri designer – quali Haider Ackermann, Neil Barrett, Ennio Capasa, Missoni, N° 21, Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood e Bernhard Willhelm – unitamente alle foto che ritraggono lui, la moglie Sophia ed il figlio Leroy che concretizzano delle infinite possibilità della moda, celebrano la creatività ed esplorano il tema del doppio, la fragilità umana, l’irrefrenabile desiderio di unicità ed anche la volontà di sognare, evocando un’ estetica tribale. Brillante trasposizione di ciò che è insolito e surreale nella vita di ogni giorno che da vita a una superba opera d’arte totale, vibrante risorsa di energia per scuotere le coscienze, contribuendo ad azionare un pensiero autonomo e vibrante – portatore di cultura e libertà -, esigenza derivante dalla narcolessia contemporanea.

A smashing interpretation of the shoes, turning into an interior item has made by the Californian artist Rachel Mahlke who created the Giddyspinster Stiletto Planters - being available at the virtual boutique Etsy.com – giving footwear a second life, by removing the sole of shoes. An unusual fetish to have, reminding me the website of Stato di Famiglia, the bright artistic duo formed by designer Sylvio Giardina and Raffaele Granato.

Un insolito feticcio da avere che mi ricorda il sito web di Stato di Famiglia, il brillante duo di artisti formato dal designer Sylvio Giardina e Raffaele Granato.

A new bridge on river Kwai, even it is on the sea, the bridge on Strait of Messina – the largest suspension bridge in the world -, ideated to connect what has divided by nature, two regions, Calabria and Sicily, two cities, Reggio Calabria – my native city – and Messina, separated by just only 3 Kilometers of sea – a magnificent portion of sea limited by Sicily and Eolie Islands, reminding me where I come from -, a controversial project of whose I’m very critical as well as many Italians and people living in Calabria and Sicily too for which has already been released millions of Euros, becomes reality, resulting from a collaboration with the architect Daniel Libeskind who recently met the executives of Strait of Messina Bridge to discuss about the construction of bridge, shops, hotels and conference halls that will be made since the end of year. Unfortunately that is born to be a disaster as nothing can prevail over the force of nature, being the area located on 38th parallel of Earth, a hyper seismic area which has already experienced many earthquakes and seaquakes. Nothing can stop progress, but I question if it’s a sign of progress or rather a mere slogan – and a potential source of richness for few ones too -, depicting a contemporary status quo, involving Italy, featuring the hydro-geological disasters, the collapse of Pompei, the rubbish in Neaples and other “art-works”, though the priorities of these areas are other ones as powering of railways, freeways – as the Salerno/Reggio Calabria freeway of whose works started about 30 years ago and never ended – and other necessary public works to protect the geographical, historical and cultural heritage. “Was this glory just and true? Sentence waits posterity”, as Alessandro Manzoni asserted yesterday in the poetry “The fifth of May”.
IL PONTE SULLO STRETTO DI MESSINA DI DANIEL LIBESKIND

Un nuovo ponte sul fiume Kwai, anche se è sul mare, il ponte sullo stretto di Messina – il ponte sospeso più largo del mondo -, ideato per collegare ciò che é stato diviso dalla natura, due regioni, la Calabria e la Sicilia, due città, Reggio Calabria – la mia città natia – e Messina, separate soltanto da 3 chilometri di mare – una magnifica porzione di mare delimitata dalla Sicilia e dalle Isole Eolie che mi ricorda da dove provengo -, un controverso progetto di cui sono molto critica come anche molti italiani e la gente che vive in Calabria e Sicilia – per il quale sono già stati rilasciati milioni di Euro – diventa realtà, in seguito ad una collaborazione con l’architetto Daniel Libeskind che ha recentemente incontrato i vertici del Ponte sullo Stretto di Messina per discutere della costruzione del ponte, boutique, hotel e sale conferenze che saranno realizzati a partire dalla fine dall’anno. Sfortunatamente ciò è nato per essere un disastro poiché nulla può prevalere sulla forza della natura, essendo l’area posta sul 38° parallelo della Terra, una zona iper sismica che ha già sperimentato numerosi terremoti e maremoti. Niente può fermare il progresso, però mi chiedo se sia progresso o piuttosto un mero slogan – e anche una potenziale risorsa di ricchezza per pochi – che dipinge un infelice status quo contemporaneo, coinvolge l’Italia di cui sono protagonisti disastri idro-geologici, il crollo di Pompei, la spazzatura a Napoli e altre “opere d’arte”, benché le priorità di queste aree siano altre quali il potenziamento delle ferrovie, autostrade – quali l’autostrada Salerno/Reggio Calabria i cui lavori sono iniziati circa trenta anni fa e non sono mai finiti – e altre opere pubbliche necessarie per proteggere il patrimonio geografico, storico e culturale dell’Italia. “Fu vera gloria? Ai posteri l’ardua sentenza”, come affermava ieri Alessandro Manzoni nella poesia “Il cinque maggio”.
