It has recently launched Herself magazine, ideated by the bright illustrator and creative Lula, Thorbjørn Ankerstjerne and Fabio Sebastianelli, biannual magazine celebrating fashion and its iconic personas under the sign of a catchy imagery made by Lula. The first issue, “The Portrait Issue” features a series of self-portraits made by Lula who turns into an imaginary persona and interpreting celebrated women of fashion world as Anna dello Russo, Delfina Delettrez, Carine Roitfeld, Mary Katrantzou, Kate Moss and many other ones of whose interviews are included in the magazine. A marvelous format, a new, sparkling way to tell about fashion I celebrate, wishing all the best to its young creators: welcome to Herself magazine!

È stato recentemente lanciato Herself magazine, ideato dalla brillante illustratrice e creativa Lula, Thorbjørn Ankerstjerne e Fabio Sebastianelli, magazine semestrale che celebra la moda ed i suoi iconici personaggi all’insegna di un accattivante immaginario, realizzato da Lula. La prima edizione, “The Portrait Issue” ha quale protagonista una serie di auto-ritratti realizzati da Lula che si trasforma in un personaggio immaginario e interpreta celebri donne del mondo della moda quali Anna dello Russo, Carine Roitfelfd, Delfina Delettrez, Mary Katrantzou, Kate Moss e molte altre le cui interviste sono incluse nel magazine. Un meraviglioso format, un nuovo, frizzante modo di raccontare la moda che celebro facendo i miei migliori auguri ai suoi giovani creatori: benvenuto Herself magazine!

Patrick McDonald, bright, eclectic, charming New York persona of fashion scene, considered as “The dandy” due to his iconic style – he has been a model, assistant buyer for Barney’s European collections, he worked for the brand Fiorucci during Seventies, then for the haute-couture brand Fabrice, columnist for magazines as PAPER, Arude and many other ones, appearing in books as “The Style Makers” by Marcia Sherrill and Carey Adina Karmel(Monacelli Press, 2001, $ 50, 00) and “American Fashion Menswear” by Robert E. Bryan (Assouline, 2009, $ 50,00) – featuring in “Four famous dandies paper dolls”(Paper Press, 2010, $ 12,00), book by the illustrator Jim Howard, including celebrated dandies as Lord George – The Beau – Brummell, Oscar Wilde and the Duke of Windsor tells about himself in the following interview with the marvelous tenderness and smartness of a genuine dandy, precious individual who is a successful evidence of elegance in appearing, being and acting.
What is the core of your aesthetics and ethic, “Less is more”, quotation by the celebrated dandy Beau Brummell to which extent is it close to your thought ?
“I believe in kindness and my good nature makes me sensitive to the gentler side of life and it’s fragile beauty. Tenderness makes me the person that I am.
“Less is More”, works for some but why not “More is Better”, that can work and it does for me most of the time. I am a canvas and I like a lot of paint to complete the picture”!
What do you think about fabulosity – word reminding Michael Alig and the Club Kids – and dandyism as standards evoking elegance, style, uniqueness, freedom and a subversive mood, are they more or less connected between themselves or instead are they far one from the other?
“I do not consider “Fabulosity” a word, I prefer “Marvelous” because it means good or pleasing, splendid or extraordinary. Dandies are a marvel! I find the club scene enchanting and fascinating. Dandyism and the club world can be connected, we are all creative beings and enjoy the art and drama of self presentation”.
What are your forthcoming projects?
“A fantastic Dandy Salon is in the works”!

Qual’é il nucleo della tua estetica ed etica, “Il meno é più” – affermazione del celebre dandy Beau Brummell – in che misura è vicino al tuo pensiero ?
“Direi che è il mio temperamento mite. Credo nella gentilezza e la mia natura bonaria mi rende sensibile al lato più gentile della vita ed é fragile bellezza. La tenerezza mi rende la persona che sono.
“Il meno è più” funziona per un pò, ma perché non “più é meglio” che può funzionare e fa per me la maggior parte delle volte. Sono una tela e mi piace tanto colore per completare il dipinto”!
“Che ne pensi della favolosità – lemma che ricorda Michael Alig ed i Club Kids – ed il dandismo quali standard che evocano eleganza, stile, unicità, libertà e un mood sovversivo, sono più o meno connessi tra di loro o sono invece lontani l’uno dall’altro”?
“Non considero la “favolosità” una parola, preferisco “meraviglioso”, perché sta a significare buono o piacevole, splendido o straordinario. I dandy sono una meraviglia! Trovo che la scena dei locali notturni sia incantevole e affascinante. Il dandyismo ed il mondo dei locali notturni può essere legato, siamo tutti esseri creativi e apprezziamo l’arte ed il dramma della autorappresentazione”.
Quali sono i tupi progetti futuri?
“C’è un fantastico Dandy Salon tra i lavori in corso d’opera”!

“Furniture fetish”, unusual exhibition of furniture under the sign of fetish suggestions which will be opened on 6th August 2011 in Hollywood at Antebellum Gallery by Rick Castro – promoting and showcasing erotic art and fetish culture -, following until 23rd August 2011, showcasing the creations by Rebecca Johnson, Roy Kesrouani, The Art Tickle along with the ones coming from the Tom of Finland Foundation. A not to be missed happening for all the ones who are devoted to fetish culture.

Zoetrope Summer 2011 issue, cover issue by Beck
It will be released on late June 2011 the Summer issue of quarterly literary magazine Zoetrope All Story – exploring the intersection between art, fiction and film-, created by the famous filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, featuring the designs by celebrated musician Beck and the writings by Stuart Dybek, as well as Emily Ruskovich and May-Lan Tan in their literary debuts. A fetish to have and read for all the ones who are devoted to literature.

“Fantastic fatalism” is a imaginary fashion line – based on the Mayan prediction that 2012 will be the end of the world – designed by the Netherlander artist Niek Pulles aka Heyniek, featuring a contrast of colors and a timeless style and evoking the mysterious theme of collection.

“Fantastic fatalism” è una linea di moda immaginaria – che si basa sulla predizione dei Maya second cui il 2012 sarà la fine del mondo – creata dall’artista olandese Niek Pulles aka Heyniek che ha quale protagonista un contrasto di colori e uno stile senza tempo che evoca il misterioso tema della collezione.

“Because the natural shining of her eyes hadn’t mistaken for tears”, a solo exhibition of the Turin young artist Guglielmo Castelli which will be held from 27th 2010 November to 22nd January 2011 in Genoa at the DAC Gallery -, evoking the track “La Canzone popolare” standing as “The people’s song” by the bright Italian songwriter Ivano Fossati and reminding me the cover by Mia Martini, unforgettable singer – featuring the melancholy personas, featuring in his universe peopled by children and teen-agers and their light, enigmatic and playful contradictions. - Meritiamo un’altra vita by Guglielmo Castelli (2010)
“Perchè il brillare naturale dei suoi occhi non lo scambiassero per pianto”, una personale del giovane artista torinese Guglielmo Castelli che si terrà dal 27 novembre 2010 al 22 gennaio 2011 a Genova presso la Galleria DAC Gallery -, che evoca il brano “La Canzone popolare” del brillante cantautore italiano Ivano Fossati e mi ricorda la cover di Mia Martini, indimenticabile artista – in cui sono protagonisti malinconici personaggi del suo universo popolato da bambini e adolescenti e le loro sottili, enigmatiche e ludiche contraddizioni. Un appuntamento imperdibile per apprezzare un autentico artista e la sua suggestiva opera di decostruzione che prende in considerazione l’infanzia quale momento di costruzione dell’ego e l’adolescenza quale sua disgregazione.

The British smashing artist and illustrator Russ Mills-Byroglyphics will showcase his latest works featuring portraits and drawings evoking gothic suggestions, dressed up with an urban mood – made by use of an unusual technique: drawing by a ballpoint pen on paper, its scanning, working on that by Photoshop and at the end its transferring on canvas -, during the exhibition “Subsidiary” which will be opened on 18th November 2010 in London at the Signal Gallery. A not to be missing happening to explore the surreal universe of a bright artist.

Un evento imperdibile per esplorare l’universo surreale di un brillante artista.

Hallowood, a smashing mask party, organized by Giampaolo Sgura and Miguel Arnau which was held on 30Th October 2010 in Milan – Via Mecenate 86 – to celebrate Halloween, inspired to the theme of America, an event attended by my friend Amedeo Piccione who made a suggestive photo-reportage of the event, featuring a and magnificent interpretation of stars as Joel Grey and the iconic Liza Minnelli from the movie “Cabaret” by Bob Fosse.
